consideration in the forest. Why dogs now have to be on a leash

There is hardly anything more exciting for your darling than a walk in the forest. The many smells and noises and perhaps also a previously unknown terrain make the joint tour a real adventure. Unfortunately, the fun is not undiminished, because spring is also the time for young animals and pregnant animals. And now you have to pay special attention to them. In some federal states there is even a leash obligation.

Please keep your dog on a leash in the forest

But even where there is no leash requirement, you must now exercise particular caution and put your dog on a (long) leash in the forest from April to mid-July so that it does not chase wild animals. Even dogs that do not show any hunting instinct should not be allowed to leave the forest paths.

In March and April, for example, pregnant deer are out and about in the forest. They are severely restricted in their movement and can hardly flee from a dog. The fawns are born in May and June. When their mother goes looking for food, they are put down at the edge of a forest or meadow and later picked up again. Such a young animal has no chance against a dog: fawns duck instead of fleeing and are therefore easy prey for four-legged friends. But even if your furry friend doesn't have "bad intentions," a light touch of the fawn could cause drama. The foreign smell irritates the mother animal and can result in her abandoning her offspring.

Your dog will not usually catch a healthy adult rabbit. Nevertheless, it is not okay to let the animals be chased by a dog: the rabbit experiences mortal fear during this chase and uses up valuable reserves of energy when fleeing. Young animals that see the light of day in the spring fare even worse. These are not as quick or as witty as adult rabbits and are therefore easily torn by dogs.

Even if you are sure that your darling would “never hunt”: The smell of a wild animal has often put even the best trained dog on the wrong track and turned it into a hunter. If in doubt, you should therefore rather take your dog on the long tow line. You can find our great towing lines in different lengths and colors in our shop.
